Raffle Draw

The draw for Carham Parish Defibs’ Big Summer Raffle will be tomorrow, Saturday 31 August, at 11.00 in Cornhill Village Hall. Doors open at 10.30. Tea, coffee and scones will be available, by donation, and last-minute raffle tickets can be bought before the draw takes place.

After the draw, at about 11.15, there will be a CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) and defibrillator demonstration. If you live in the parish and you are planning to apply for a public access defibrillator for your community, this is an opportunity to come along and see how these life-saving procedures are carried out, and ask any questions you have about them.

Everyone is welcome to this event, which is expected to finish by 12.00.

Flodden Rideout 2024

The annual rideout to Flodden, which is part of Coldstream Civic Week, takes place this Thursday 8 August. This is the largest of the rideouts from Coldstream, with as many as 300 horses and riders taking part. A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order will be in place from 1015 hrs to 1800 hrs. The route of the cavalcade can be viewed here

Cornhill Village Fair

Carham Parish Defibs will be at Cornhill Village Fair tomorrow, Sunday 28 July, 12.00 to 3.00, to raise money for the parish’s defibrillator fund. You will find us running the Pimm’s No. 1 stall, with all profits going towards buying and installing the first public access defibrillators in Carham parish. We will also be launching our Big Summer Raffle at the fair. Please come along to support us, if you can!

Parish Council Meeting

The next meeting of Carham Parish Council will be on Tuesday 9 July 2024 at 6.30 pm in St Cuthbert’s Church, Carham. You can find the agenda and minutes of previous meetings on our Meetings page. All parishioners are welcome to attend the meeting.

Parishioners questions are answered before the main meeting proceedings begin. If you have a question for the Parish Council, please send this to the Parish Clerk in advance of the meeting. This advance notice is needed because it is unlawful for the Parish Council to make a decision without at least three clear days’ notice. The Parish Clerk can ask the question on your behalf or, if you attend the meeting, you can ask your question in person.

Next Saturday’s Walk

If you are planning to come on next Saturday’s Footpaths Group walk, please note that the starting point is now the Cornhill Village Hall car park at 10 am. The route has had to be shortened, and will now be 4.5 miles. These changes are because part of the byway from Wark to West Learmouth is too overgrown to attempt. Everyone is welcome on this walk, including well-behaved dogs on leads. For more information, see the poster on our Walks page.

Next Footpaths Group Walk

The next walk organised by the footpaths group will be on Saturday 15 June 2024, starting at 10 am. This 5.5 mile circular walk starts and ends in Wark and is on footpaths, byways and the old railway line. Everyone welcome, including well-behaved dogs on leads. For more information, see the poster on our Walks page. If you would like to know more about the route itself, there is a report from the last time it was walked under “By Railway and Byway” on the same page.

Annual Parish Assembly

The Annual Parish Assembly will be on Tuesday 14 May at 6.30 pm in St Cuthbert’s church, Carham. The agenda is on the Annual Parish Assembly page, where you can find information about this community event together with minutes of past meetings.

Annual Parish Council meeting

The next meeting of the Parish Council – the Annual Parish Council meeting – will be on Tuesday 14 May, following the Annual Parish Assembly. The agenda is on the Meetings page, together with minutes of previous meetings.

For more information about either meeting, please contact the Parish Clerk.

Voting on Thursday 2 May

With elections coming up this Thursday 2 May, this is a reminder that to vote in England you now need to show photo ID at the polling station. There is a list of the accepted forms of photo ID on the Electoral Commission website. You will only need to show one form of photo ID, but it needs to be the original version and not a photocopy. These elections are for the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Northumbria police area, and for the Mayor for the North East Mayoral Combined Authority. There is information about both on the Northumberland County Council website, with links to other websites for further details.
