Christmas Raffle

There are just a few days left to buy your tickets for the Christmas raffle – the last fundraising event of the year for the parish defibrillator fund. Tickets are just £1 each, and the prizes that have been donated should add nicely to anyone’s seasonal festivities. They include a magnum of Champagne, bottles of wine, whisky and sloe gin, boxes of chocolates, a £30 gift voucher for The Good Life Shop in Wooler, a basket of Christmas treats from Cornhill Village Shop and a sack of Saxon potatoes – an essential accompaniment to the turkey! – from Particularly Good Potatoes in Wooler. Tickets are available from Victoria Poland at Mindrum Station House, John McGregor in Wark and Willa Straker-Smith at Wark Common, and are also on sale at Cornhill Village Shop. If you have any trouble getting hold of tickets, please email carhamparishdefibs so that we can help you to get some. Ticket stubs and money need to be returned by Saturday 16 December and the draw is on Monday 18 December. Please support the raffle if you can!

Carham Priory

Earlier this year a geophysical survey was carried out in the field at Carham between the church and the river. The focus was the site of the medieval priory which appears in the historical record but is no longer visible above ground. The survey was done by Durham University Archaeological Services and the Bernician Studies Group of Newcastle. A public presentation of the findings will take place at Branxton Village Hall on 28 November from 10.00 to 16.00. The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome, but please book your place so that the organisers know how many people are attending.

Next Footpaths Group Walk

This is another chance to enjoy a guided walk around Mindrum farm with Tom Fairfax who will be talking about regenerative farming and other developments at this mixed organic farm, which the Footpaths Group last visited in 2019. The five-mile walk is on Saturday 2 December 2023 and starts at 10 am. Everyone is welcome, including well-behaved dogs on leads. For more information, see the poster on our Walks page.

We would like to have some idea of numbers, so if you plan to come along please email the walks organiser or send a text to 07557 211 564. We hope to see you there!
